As of January 14th 2020, Microsoft Windows 7 entered ‘End of extended support‘ or ‘End-Of-Life‘ status. This means that Microsoft are no longer providing any support or security updates going forward.
What does this mean for me?
If you are running Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10 then you have nothing to be concerned about, so long as you stay on-top of your Windows updates and have suitable security software actively running on your computer. However, if you are running Windows 7 or earlier (such as Windows Vista or Windows XP), then you are at far greater risk from the dangers of Viruses, Trojans, Malware, Ransomware, all those baddies.
Why should I upgrade?
As a user, your personal care about which sites you visit is no longer a reliable protection against malware. You now need to be sure to run a fully patched operating system. Since Windows is the biggest target for malware, and since enemy actors have become intimately familiar with Windows 7’s flaws, running it leaves a big, gaping security hole on your computer, now more than ever that Microsoft are no longer working to close these security holes.
How do I upgrade to Windows 10 and can I keep my data?
Sooner rather than later we advise you to book your computer in for us to perform the upgrade. We will carry out an initial assessment to determine if it is economically viable to undertake the upgrade and whether your computer hardware can support it. In some cases we can make use of your existing Windows license, otherwise we will need to supply you with a new Windows 10 license from Microsoft. We only supply genuine software from authorized distributors. Any data you have stored on the computer can be saved and transferred over. However, confidential data such as usernames/passwords will need to be re-entered once you get your computer back.
